1) Growth: Q3 GDP contraction was industry-led—and it matters for 2026 baselines
INEGI confirmed that real GDP fell 0.3% q/q in Q3 2025, with an annual reading of -0.2% y/y. The composition is the headline: secondary activities declined 1.5% q/q (and -2.7% y/y), while tertiary activities managed a modest +0.2% q/q (and +1.0% y/y).
For decision-makers, this is not a technical footnote: it lowers the base for 2026 growth, pressures industrial utilisation, and makes “execution risk” (energy, logistics, permitting, and security) more financially material for manufacturers operating on tight margin structures.
2) Trade: October turns to surplus—non-oil balance did the heavy lifting
Mexico posted an October merchandise trade surplus of US$606m, reversing a US$2.4bn deficit in September; the swing was driven by the non-petroleum balance, which moved from a small deficit to a US$2.736bn surplus.
Total October exports were US$66.133bn, with non-petroleum exports at US$64.312bn. Imports totalled US$65.527bn, led by intermediate-goods imports (US$50.630bn).
Notably, the release shows automotive exports at US$16.122bn (y/y -14.0%), while the “rest” of exports rose sharply (US$45.522bn; y/y +34.8%), consistent with strength outside autos.
Operationally, this favours non-auto export manufacturers and suppliers, while autos remain exposed to model cycles, pricing pressure, and any US policy noise.
3) Inflation: headline remains contained, but core is still sticky for services and contracts
In the first half of November, INEGI reported 0.47% biweekly headline inflation and 3.61% y/y annual inflation; core inflation was 4.32% y/y, with non-core at 1.29% y/y.
The move was driven largely by regulated and seasonal dynamics—INEGI explicitly flags the end of summer electricity tariff subsidies in 11 cities, with “energetics and government-authorised tariffs” rising 2.92% biweekly.
For manufacturers, the immediate read-through is not consumer demand but cost base: utilities and transport costs can re-accelerate episodically, and the “sticky” core backdrop keeps wage negotiations and services contracts more inflation-sensitive than the headline suggests.
4) Export manufacturing (IMMEX): monthly uptick, but employment still down versus 2024
INEGI’s Manufacturing, Maquila, and Export Services Industry Program (IMMEX) release (26 November, September data) shows employment up 1.1% m/m (seasonally adjusted) across IMMEX establishments, with manufacturing units up 1.2% m/m. Hours worked rose 0.8% m/m.
The annual comparison remains softer: the bulletin headline prints -1.9% y/y for employment, and the dataset notes total IMMEX employment around 3.21m, down roughly 2.0% y/y, with manufacturing employment down ~2.7% y/y.
This is consistent with a sector that is still producing and exporting, but managing labour cautiously—often a sign of margin protection, uncertainty on future orders, and an emphasis on productivity and automation rather than headcount expansion.
5) Manufacturing capex: Markdom opens a high-precision plastics plant in Irapuato (US$25m; 300 jobs)
Markdom inaugurated a new plant in Irapuato with a US$25m investment and 300 direct jobs, focused on high-precision plastic injection.
The company indicated a meaningful exposure to the automotive supply chain (with additional end-markets including appliances and industrial applications).
The practical implication is supplier deepening: plastics, tooling, and precision moulding capacity are “quiet enablers” for nearshored assembly, and they improve the region’s ability to localise components, shorten lead times, and de-risk cross-border logistics—particularly valuable when OEMs push for resilience and just-in-time performance simultaneously.
6) Manufacturing capex: Sinoboom inaugurates an advanced-manufacturing plant in Guanajuato (US$150m; 700 jobs)
Sinoboom inaugurated a new manufacturing facility at Guanajuato Puerto Interior, a US$150m project expected to create 700 jobs, adding automated processes and specialised assembly lines into the Bajío industrial ecosystem.
Beyond the headline jobs number, the strategic angle is North America proximity: management framed the site as part of an international expansion aimed at shortening delivery times and strengthening regional after-sales support.
For local industry, these projects tend to have second-order effects—supplier development, specialised maintenance services, and demand for technical talent—which can compound into a stronger manufacturing cluster if infrastructure and permitting keep pace.

The second half of November sharpened the bifurcated Mexico story: macro data confirms an industry-led slowdown (Q3 GDP) and a flat near-term print (IOAE), yet the external sector and investment pipeline remain constructive for export-facing manufacturing.
The October trade swing—driven by non-oil flows—supports cash generation in non-auto manufacturing, while IMMEX signals firms are still operating but are conservative on labour, consistent with a productivity-first stance in a volatile demand environment.
The investable opportunity sits in execution: companies that can localise inputs, lock in reliable utilities and logistics, and build supplier depth in the Bajío are positioned to outperform, even if the cycle stays uneven.
The key risk is that a weak industrial baseline becomes self-reinforcing through delayed capex and cautious hiring—making policy clarity, infrastructure delivery, and operational excellence more decisive than “macro momentum” in early 2026.
